Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has urged patience as he works to establish consistency at Anfield, acknowledging that the team will experience setbacks during the early stages of his tenure.
Iraola’s side were held to a goalless draw by Fulham on Saturday, a disappointing result that followed victories over Ipswich and Atletico Madrid.
The draw left Liverpool struggling for momentum in the Premier League, with attention now turning to Tuesday’s League Cup third-round meeting with Tottenham at Anfield.
Iraola said the frustration surrounding the Fulham performance was understandable but insisted such fluctuations were part of the process.
“We have to accept it in terms of there are going to be ups and downs in this process,” the Spaniard said.
The former Bournemouth boss wants Liverpool to reproduce the level of football displayed in their wins over Ipswich and Atletico Madrid rather than the performance against Fulham.
“The key is the consistency to perform like this,” he said.
Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot in June, also expressed satisfaction with his squad following the arrivals of Bradley Barcola, Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.
He indicated that Liverpool would rotate their squad against Tottenham as they manage commitments across several competitions.
Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to start in place of first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Iraola said the strength of the squad would ultimately be judged by results but expressed confidence in players who have yet to feature regularly.
“I am really looking forward to see, because I feel they are going to play well, or they can help us,” he said.
