Sokoto-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Musa Ayuba Lukuwa, has appealed for calm after he was allegedly attacked with a knife shortly after Friday’s Jumu’at prayer at his mosque in Mabera, Sokoto metropolis.
Lukuwa sustained a minor injury around his neck during the incident but said he was in stable condition and had no reason for concern.
In a video circulated on social media, the cleric appeared with a plaster covering part of his neck and assured his followers that the injury was not life-threatening.
He said the alleged attacker approached him after the prayer and attempted to stab him with a knife.
Lukuwa thanked followers who quickly intervened, saying their response helped protect him and prevented the incident from causing more serious injuries.
The cleric also urged his supporters not to respond with anger or retaliation, warning against any action that could escalate tension in Sokoto.
He called on members of the public to remain peaceful and allow relevant authorities to investigate the incident and take appropriate action under the law.
The alleged attack has generated concern among Lukuwa’s followers and residents of the state, with the incident attracting attention on social media.
Lukuwa also urged his supporters to exercise restraint amid controversies surrounding some of his recent religious pronouncements.
He thanked followers and well-wishers for their prayers and solidarity, assuring them that there was no need for panic over his condition.
